How we help you answer the right question through LCA

A life cycle assessment should be more than a compliance exercise. It should reveal opportunities, challenge assumptions, and support decisions that genuinely reduce environmental impact. At 2-0 LCA, we don't rush through projects to maximise volume. We take the time to understand your system, collect the right data, and deliver insights you can actually use. Here's how we work.

Phase 1: Discovery and Goal & Scope Definition

Every project begins with a conversation, not a template. We sit down with you to understand your specific challenges, objectives, and constraints. What decisions are you trying to make? What pressures are you facing? What opportunities do you want to explore? The questions you need to answer shape everything that follows, so we start by listening.

If you're new to LCA, we don't assume prior knowledge. We take time to explain how life cycle thinking works, what different methodological approaches reveal, and what data requirements look like. When challenges are particularly complex, such as comparing emerging technologies or navigating intricate supply chains, we often recommend a workshop or training course before the project begins. This investment in shared understanding isn't a delay. It's what enables clearer scoping, better data collection, and results you can trust and use strategically.

From these discussions, we develop the Goal and Scope of your LCA together. This defines the purpose of the study, the functional unit, the system boundaries, the environmental impact categories to assess, and the methodological approach that will serve you best. This becomes the foundation of everything that follows. Once we've agreed on the scope, we provide a detailed proposal and timeline that sets clear expectations for the work ahead.

Phase 2: Life Cycle Inventory (Data Collection)

An LCA is only as good as the data it's built on, and this is where many studies fail. We work alongside you to collect the life cycle inventory, providing structured templates tailored to your system, guiding you on what level of detail is needed, helping you navigate your supply chain to source primary data from suppliers, and offering training sessions for your team. Data collection is often the most time-intensive phase, but it's also where the credibility of your LCA is won or lost.

For complex products or operations, we can visit your facilities or key supplier sites to train staff, conduct process walkthroughs, verify data quality, and resolve ambiguities on system boundaries or allocation questions. This hands-on approach ensures the highest quality inventory and builds internal capacity for future assessments. When your team understands the process, the data improves, and so does the value of the final assessment. We care about quality, not speed.

Phase 3: Life Cycle Impact Assessment

With the inventory complete, we move into Life Cycle Impact Assessment, where raw data on material flows and emissions are translated into quantified environmental impacts. This is where the real value of LCA emerges. Our modelling work is guided by a commitment to decision-making. We structure the assessment to reveal where changes will have the greatest effect through hotspot identification, sensitivity analysis, and scenario comparison. When compliance is needed, we ensure your LCA meets the requirements of specific standards such as ISO 14040/14044, PEF, or GHG Protocol, but never at the expense of usability.

We use robust databases and state-of-the-art modelling tools, applying best practices in methodology to ensure your results are defensible, transparent, and credible. The modelling phase connects the data you've gathered to the decisions you need to make. This is what separates a useful LCA from a document that sits on a shelf.

Phase 4: Reporting and Application

A report is not the end of the project. It's the beginning of the work that matters. We can deliver results in formats designed for action: executive summaries for leadership, technical documentation for sustainability professionals, visualisations that communicate complex findings clearly, and recommendations tailored to your operational and strategic context. But we don't stop there.

We offer presentations to walk through findings and implications, workshops to explore reduction strategies and build consensus, follow-up consultations to answer questions as you apply the insights, and support for communicating results externally to customers, investors, or regulators. Our goal is to ensure you have the expert support needed to translate LCA insights into decisions that genuinely reduce environmental impact and create business value. The project doesn't end when the report is delivered. It ends when you're confident in using what you've learned.
